Sabrent SATA CD/DVD/RW USB 2.0 Slim Notebook Drive Enclosure EC-BSAT (CD/DVD burner not Included) Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)I bought this to house my internal Lenovo Multi III DVD/RW (Panasonic UJ890). It couldn't be recognized when connecting through USB ports of my Thinkpad, or another desktop. However, if I put my blu-ray player (Panasonic UJ240) in this enclosure, then it's recognized and working!! My other external encloser is from JacobsParts, and it works for both blu-ray/DVD-RW drive and DVD/RW drive.
So it's quite weird for me. This just might be that I have a (semi) bad enclosure circuit board. But for now I'll just swap my existing enclosure and use this to house my blu-ray burner/player (Panasonic UJ240).
Will provide update after extensive use and see if it holds up.

Asus USB 2.0 8x DVD Writer External Optical Drive SDRW-08D2S-U (Black) Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)The ASUS SDRW-08D2S-U is the replacement model for the 08D1S. It's plug and play--with the CyberPower 7 port powered USB hub the drive installs without software and is recognized by Windows 7. It does, however, require 2 USB ports. The supplied cable is a Y-USB with 2 USB "A" connectors on one end.
A common complaint of notebook owners are malfunctioning internal optical drives. This drive will be my primary optical drive, and my internal notebook drive only a back-up if necessary. Rubber feet help keep the ASUS from sliding around. The provided stand didn't look very stable, and inserting a disc is actually safer with the drive horizontal.
It rips CDs and plays DVDs flawlessly--a better, faster drive than the one in my HP notebook. A quality piece of gear from ASUS.
