Panasonic TY-EW3D10MK1 3D Starter Kit Review

Panasonic TY-EW3D10MK1 3D Starter Kit
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I am awed at how the price of this product goes up and down, worse than a see-saw. It's still on the expensive side, considering you must buy glasses in addition to the expensive 3D TV.
Hoever, this box set is cheaper than buying 2 pair of glasses seperately, and you get the 2 movies to boot.
I really have no complaints as to the fit and feel of the glasses. Some have complained that they are uncomfortable, I don't find that they are. But then again, I don't exactly have a petite nose. I use them as they were packaged, I did not use the nose pieces.
My only gripe with the glassess is the limited range - perhaps it's the TV (Panasonic TC-P42GT25 42-Inch), but I cannot lie down while wearing the glasses, nor lower my head too much as it loses the signal and the glasses shut off. For this reason, I deduct 1 star.
The included movies were an excellent choice. I have the Blu Ray of Coraline 3D in anaglyph format, and I thought it looked pretty good, although somewhat muted. The Bluray 3D looks excellent. I haven't yet watched Ice Age 3, but will very soon.
I think I heard (or read) somewhere that they will be including Avatar as an add in in a future version of this set. I'll get it anyway though, if I sign up after December 1st.
Overall, the set was worth every penny, since I got the bundle deal and didn't pay for it :) I'm mostly satisfied with thie set.

3DTV Corp 3D Window DLP-LINK 3D Glasses (2 Pairs) Review

3DTV Corp 3D Window DLP-LINK 3D Glasses (2 Pairs)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The glasses I received from 3DTVCorp were model VA-DD1. They came in nice boxes with protective bag and microfiber cleaning cloth. I have a Mitsubishi Laservue L65-A90 DLP TV and I had the Mitsubishi 3D Starter kit. The glasses that came with the kit were IR based. Well it seems all Mitsubishi DLP TVs made before 2010 have DLP Link on and it can not be de-activated. So when I used the glasses in the 3D Start Kit I was getting a terrible overly saturated red image. It wasn't until a little research that I learned that the red I was seeing was an artifact of DLP Link. So I purchased some of these DLP Link glasses and the red is gone and the 3D image is exactly what I expected to see from my laser DLP TV. So anyone with a Mitsubishi DLP TV that is a 2009 model or older, or a Samsung DLP TV they can't DLP Link off on should get these glasses. They perform well and cost less then the other ones here on Amazon.

DLP 3D shutter glasses and transmitter pack for your compatible 3D HDTV (computer or converter required for some 3D content) Review

DLP 3D shutter glasses and transmitter pack for your compatible 3D HDTV (computer or converter required for some 3D content)
Average Reviews:

I actually purchased the 4 pace of these glasses with the transmitter, but I no longer see this combo, so I'm leaving my review on the two pack. The glasses are very similar to what you see in the picture, but the entire border/frame is black. It seems like a durable plastic, but definitely not like the 3d 'sunglasses' you see elsewhere. I bought the Mitsubishi 3d DLP WD-60638 TV. In order to view 3D, you need the Mitsubishi 3D converter as well, and the transmitter for the glasses will connect to the converter. The glasses only work with direct line of sight to the transmitter so be sure to place the transmitter centered on your TV. I also had to upgrade the software on my TV so that the reception would be better. Overall the glasses work fine, and the 3D quality is great. However, the glasses sometimes 'de-sync' from the transmitter and you start to get flickering/pulsating between dark/normal contrast (no effect on quality of the image though). The only way I've found so far to 're-sync' the glasses is to turn the TV off then on again. It's not a major annoyance, and doesn't happen all the time, but it's why I gave these glasses 4 stars instead of 5.

Panasonic DMP-BDT100 Full HD 3D Blu-ray Disc Player Review

Panasonic DMP-BDT100 Full HD 3D Blu-ray Disc Player
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Panasonic's DMP-BDT100 Blu-ray 3D player is currently one of the least expensive options for 3D Blu-ray playback, but this doesn't mean it sacrifices performance for the sake of cost savings. The player offers a robust set of streaming options (Netflix, Amazon VOD, YouTube, Pandora, etc.) as well as very good DVD upconversion and outstanding Blu-ray playback, for the same price as many standard 2D Blu-ray players. UPDATE: VUDU is now also available on the BDT100 via a recent firmware and server update.
The player lacks some features compared to the top of the line DMP-BDT350: no dual HDMI output (only needed if you are using this with an older non 3D-compliant receiver), no multichannel analog outputs (for use with non-HDMI receivers) and no built-in WiFi networking (can be added via the Panasonic Wireless LAN Adapter). It also offers a fairly clunky user interface lacking the modern graphic-driven GUI that you see on current LG and Samsung Blu-ray players, though it is superior to the user menu on the Pioneer players. But the DMP-BDT100 provides all the basics, and several advanced features, as well as strong high def video and audio performance. The player passes all the upconversion and film cadence detection tests on the "Spears and Munsil" and "HQV Benchmark" DVDs and Blu-ray Discs with flying colors and also offers enhanced 4:4:4 color output with 24p (24 frame/second) output options for both DVDs and Blu-ray Discs. If silver discs are primarily how you watch your movies, then there is little to fault in the BDT100.
We did notice a peculiarity with Netflix streaming on the BDT100. Streaming SD content from Netflix, we observed something called the "CUE" (chroma upsampling error or "chroma bug"). This is something that can occur when a compressed video source has its color information upconverted to restore color detail lost in the compression process. On the BDT100, this upconversion is imperfect, which can cause visible color banding or jagged edges on the borders between colors. The problem is only noticeable on standard definition Netflix streaming content. Netflix HD, standard DVD and Blu-ray Disc playback do not exhibit this issue. And frankly, those with untrained eyes might not even notice it. It becomes more evident as you move to larger screens (e.g., front projection systems), but it can be viewed on some Netflix SD content even at the more common 42-inch and up screen sizes. As to whether this issue is a deal-breaker to you or not, that depends on how much standard def streaming you do from Netflix, and whether the chroma bug is something that bothers you. But we would be remiss not to mention it. According to our contacts at Panasonic, they are aware of the issue and are working toward a fix.
If Netflix SD content is not a part of your streaming media diet, then we give the BDT100 an unqualified recommendation. But if you do find yourself watching a lot of standard def streaming content on Netflix then you may want to look elsewhere or wait to see if Panasonic can deliver a fix to this issue on the BDT100.
Our more detailed review of the player is available on our web site at Big Picture Big Sound (dot com).

okay so the glasses seem like pretty good quality and the picture quality is amazing. I will add that it seems a little dark but a simple brightness adjustment fixed that for the most part. My problem with this product is that you have to send a voucher in to get your movies I did this online and it was very simple to do the problem is it said it will take 10 to 12 weeks to delivery I see no reason for it to take that long as there is not a lot of 3d contant right now and you would think that samsung would want me to be able to enjoy my movies as soon as possible considering how much money I gave them

Samsung SSG-P2100T - 3D glasses - active shutter Review

Samsung SSG-P2100T - 3D glasses - active shutter
Average Reviews:

Writing this review to try to help out others looking to buy this product.
I bought a samsung 3d tv (490 model) a few weeks ago. Was searching amazon for a good deal on the glasses and I stumbled across 2 different products with the same model number for the starter kit. One had what looked like an older version of the box and the other a newer picture with the Monster Vs. Aliens promo on the front. When comparing the 2 different listings, I found that they both came with 2 pairs of sunglasses and the MvA movie. The only difference I could find between the 2 was a price difference, mixed reviews for the one that seemed older, and maybe a cosmetic box difference. So after contemplating I decided to purchase what seemed to be the older version for a very low price of 135.00 for the box set(while the other was selling for 350.00) . I figured if I received them and they did not work I could just return them.
In 5 days I receive my package and open it up to find a pair of the glasses in the newer box with the MvA promo on the front. Open up the package and put in the MvA movie into my PS3 and put the glasses on and the 3d was working great.
I also downloaded a few of the 3d game demos in the ps store and they also worked great. I have not yet had any issues with these glasses.
These glasses fit fine over a pair of square frame glasses, although they are not the most comfortable or stylish, they don't bug to the point you want to take them off. Cant wait for more 3d titles to be released.Overall a great purchase at $135 and I dont think there is any difference between this and the other higher price product with the same model number.

Panasonic DMP-BDT210 Integrated-Wi-Fi 3D Blu-ray DVD Player Review

Panasonic DMP-BDT210 Integrated-Wi-Fi 3D Blu-ray DVD Player
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The player is great. The menu system is the best I've used in a player and I returned both a Sony BD560 and a Samsung 6500 before getting this unit. Just a few notes for those that might be thinking of getting it this player.
#1 The internet options are extensive, new options to me like Amazon streaming and Skype, mixed with the mainstay apps like Netflix, Pandora, and many more. make this player very attractive to the streaming and online entertainment user.
#2 The firmware the unit currently ships with will not let you get into the Internet streaming apps or anything for that matter until you update the firmware. Updating the firmware from the 1.09 firmware it ships with will not work as of this date via wireless or wired internet connections. The secondary option is to burn the frmware to a disc. This you think would be straight foward, but it isn't. Using Windows 7 or Vista, you MUST create an ISO 9660 ONLY... I went through 3 coasters before this player could properly read the Firmware update disc I created to bring it up to 1.47. Using any other ISO format will fail.
#3, Netflix... I have 2 accounts, one old, one new and active. Got them mixed up during the install process and had my OLD netflix account essentially bound to the unit. No way to empty the cache, or sign-out and login with a new username and password (It doesn't use the code on screen method like a lot of players, you actually log into netflix from the machine) To wipe out the incorrect netflix ID, I had to factory reset the Blu-Ray player. Which meant setting everything up again. My shared drives (You can map a shared folder on your network to play files, very nice) Wireless, everything had to be set up again.
#4 No on board memory. It supports SD cards for Storage for Blu Ray online features and other apps, but it has no storage of its own. I personally found this to be nice, especially given I have many SD cards laying around from 1 to 8 gigs in size. But if you want to take full advantage of extras on Blue Rays, add the cost of an SD card to your price (Or possibly USB thumb drive??? haven't tested) in order to have on-board storage.
This player is fast, has an outstanding menu system. A very reliable network interface (Take note Samsung!) and has some nice next-gen features such as touch-less ejecting, kind of novel, but I did find myself liking it.... having come from the Samsung 6500 just recently, I found the fact that the player keeps you informed with on screen displays as to what it is doing if their are the common loading delays when first starting Blu-Rays for instance, a very nice change from the black of screen of questioning I always had with the Samsung model. And Sony's 560 had a very lame netflix interface so that wasn't an option for me after seeing it, given I use streaming a LOT.
For the 2011 models, I'd like to see the offerings from the competitors before I whole heartily recommend this one, but I'm very happy with my purchase. Panasonic seems to know what they are doing with UI's, UI user Feedback and general tech savyness in their Blu-Ray players. (aside from the current Firmware glitch)

Samsung BD-C6900 1080p 3D Blu-ray Disc Player Review

Samsung BD-C6900 1080p 3D Blu-ray Disc Player
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Samsung's BD-C6900 is one of the first Blu-ray 3D players on the market (the other being Panasonic's DMP-BDT300 and upcoming DMP-BDT350). As a first generation Blu-ray 3D player, you have to expect a few glitches (and you'll get them), but if you're itching to watch 3D TV at home in full HD 1080p, this player will get the job done, with a few nice perks and one potentially major caveat.
There is a lot to like about the BD-C6900 including super-fast boot-up and load times : 8 seconds to boot, 11 seconds to load a DVD and an almost unbelievable 18 seconds to load a BD-Java Blu-ray title ("Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl"). This is about twice as fast to load a BD-Java disc compared to the otherwise super-speedy OPPO BDP-83 player, and is less than 1/3 the load time of the Pioneer BDP-320 on the same title. It also offers a wealth of IPTV options and web widgets, including Netflix and VUDU streaming, YouTube and Pandora (among others). And with DLNA networking, you can connect it to your networked computers to access (and stream), audio, video and photo content like nobody's business.
As a 3D player, it seems to perform exactly as designed - we say "seems" because the only real 3D content we have on Blu-ray 3D Disc to test with is the Monsters vs. Aliens promo disc that Samsung includes in the 3D Starter Kit. When connected to a Samsung UN55C8000 3D LED/LCD TV, the MvA disc looked fantastic using the Samsung active shutter 3D glasses. Yes we did see some "crosstalk" (interference between left and right channels), but this was caused by the TV, not the player.
But as a 3D player, there is one little known caveat - yes the player is compatible with 2D TVs (in 2D mode) and with current HDMI 1.3 receivers, however, if you want to take full advantage of the audio and video capabilities of this player used with a 3D TV, then you will need to have one of the brand new HDMI 1.4-equipped audio video receivers. Current HDMI 1.3 receivers *cannot* pass through the HDMI 1.4 3D video signal to a compatible 3D TV. This means that if you want to take advantage of lossless audio codecs (Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD Master Audio), your only option is to upgrade to an HDMI 1.4-equipped receiver or use the player's multi-channel analog outputs and let the player do the decoding. And this is neither the easiest to set-up nor the highest quality option as it relies on the bass management and speaker configuration capabilities of the player, which are weaker than the bass management capabilities of most receivers.
Panasonic's Blu-ray 3D players get around this limitation by providing two HDMI outputs: an HDMI 1.4 3D-enabled output (to connect directly to the display or to an HDMI 1.4 receiver) and a legacy HDMI 1.3 output for connecting to an HDMI 1.3 receiver. Is this a show-stopper? It might be if you don't want to upgrade your receiver (again). But if you only use the speakers built into your TV (blech!), or you're happy with the legacy lossy surround formats (Dolby Digital and regular DTS) which you can get from the optical output, OR if you have an HDMI 1.4-compliant A/V receiver then this will not be a problem for you.
As a standard 2D Blu-ray player, we found that the BD-C6900 was a mixed bag - some upconversion tasks like odd cadence detection and correction as well as standard 2:3 film cadence detection, were performed well, as was the player's treatment of diagonal lines: no jaggies visible here, even on the spinning white line torture tests on the HQV benchmark discs. But we were surprised to see some noticeable digital artifacts on standard Blu-ray Discs such as "Blade Runner" - the intro title sequence looked less than ideal with ghosting in the title sequence and beyond that, some noise and blockiness in the black backgrounds that we have not seen on other players.
Overall, the BD-C6900 is a pretty solid Blu-ray and DVD player, but for the 2D Blu-ray playback artifacts and HDMI 1.3-receiver incompatibility. If these factors are not important to you, then you are likely to be happy with it. If not, then wait for Samsung's higher end Blu-ray 3D player, coming later this year (not yet announced) or take a look at the Panasonic or Sony Blu-ray 3D players when they become more widely available.
Our comprehensive BD-C6900 review is available on Big Picture Big Sound (dot com).

Xpand Universal X103 3D Glasses Compatible with Active 3D TV's, Black Review

Xpand Universal X103 3D Glasses Compatible with Active 3D TV's, Black

I have a Panasonic 3D and wear normal glasses , the Panny's never seemed to fit comfortably for my tastes... These feel great , secure on my face , they seem lighter on my nose than the panny's. Wearing glasses inside these felt great because they go snug around your head. You do have to set the glasses for your tv model , for some reason I thought it would automatically do it so that was a little bummer... you have to hold down the power and cycle the button until it matches your brand... it will remember it the next time so no big deal but if you do bring them to someone else's house you will have to remember how to do this or explain it to someone who is using them. My local theater is not xpand so I cannot try the cinema part but thats another setting too! so dont lose those instructions... So if your looking to buy a second or third 3d glasses for your rig consider these for its transportability and at least a change of pace from the glasses that your tv brand forces on you.
added 11/9/10 : Just played hours of Call of Duty black ops in 3D and it looked great!

Marantz UD5005 Blu-Ray Disc Player Review

Marantz UD5005 Blu-Ray Disc Player
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I am curious as to some of the reviews for this player. Chris Dobbins made several comments that have no foundation with respect to the quality of this player. the biggest gripe I heard and not one for me is lack of wireless connectivity easily fixed with a netgear WNCE2001, I have used this device to make non wireless devices connect via wireless. its not plug and play it requires a few simple steps to make it work. the other thing that is some what unfair are the comments about the ingredients to make a cake and no mention of how the the cake finally turned out. what I mean in the simplest terms are if you have a great bluray player like the UD5005 and lack luster equipment and cables how do you expect to benefit from the quality your are paying for in the player. side note, I ungraded from a samsung to the marantz , there is no comparison . not to knock the samsung player but you don't realize what you have been missing until you can see and hear the difference. yes the samsung has lots of bells and whistles that the marantz does not, but the marantz is a Bentley and the samsung is a Kia, both admirable automobiles but ultimately we all want to drive the Bentley. Build quality is first rate , solid metal construction with a 3 year warranty lets you know much the company backs all that quality. A whisper quiet drive system could not even tell it was on. after watching some clips from recent blurays like TRON and Avatar on my 7.1 surround system ( a 65 inch Panasonic TH-65VX00U , Main sound is provided by a pair of Polk LSI 9's powered by a Nikko alpha 230 the rest of the 7.1 one setup is powered by a B&K AV5000 power amp running center sides and rears ) on both the samsung BDC6500 and the Marantz UD5005 the differences are staggering, and let me preface this by saying I loved my samsung , but sorry samsung we are getting divorced . The UD5005 has the most incredible picture and sound quality, truly black black levels and crisp sound reproduction. the opening scenes from Avatar after the shuttle leaves the main ship in orbit and heads to planet surface , as the shuttle lands you can hear the lightweight helicopter gunships they can be heard clearly but are lost on the samsung , its all in the details, and the detail on the UD5005 is what will set it apart and why its worth the extra money . picture detail and sound are spectacular but this is just my opinion remember . bottom line is all about keeping your system proportionate , there is no point in buying this player and watching it on a $600 TV and hooking it up with cheap radio shack cables. getting the best sound out of your player means having good audio and video equipment and every thing from the disc in the player to sound coming out of the speakers needs to be as good as is possible. what you are paying for in the UD5005 is all about fidelity , not bells and whistles after all its ultimately a way to reproduce your favorite movies on bluray not watch youtube and stream poor quality movies from netflix , don't judge it on what it does not do, judge it on what it does well, playback of bluray movies the way that they should be, with crystal clear picture and awesome sound reproduction

Samsung BD-C7900 1080p 3D Blu-ray Disc Player

I upgraded from the Samsung 6900...which was exactly the same as the 7900 except the 7900 has two HDMI outputs...1 HDMI (video/audio) and 1 HDMI (audio). The 6900 does have 7.1 analog outputs that way the blu-ray player does the decoding for all the HD audio formats...but since my Onkyo receiver also decodes HD audio I wanted to having the settings at BITSTREAM (AUDIOPHILE). My receiver is 1.3 HDMI compatible but not 1.4 HDMI (3D ready) so I send HDMI (video/audio) to my 3D tv and the other HDMI (audio) to my receiver...the sound is INCREDIBLE. I love all the wireless features this blu-ray player has...netflix, pandora, blockbuster, and many more. Very easy to set up and use. I highly recommend both the Samsung 6900 and even more so the 7900 because of the two HDMI outputs. I have had NO problems at all with either blu-ray player. The picture quality and audio are top notch...PERFECTION!!!

Elite VSX-33 A/V Receiver Review

Elite VSX-33 A/V Receiver
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I am an experience AV and tech person. I had Sunfire, Sony, NAD, even Macintosh. But as I got older I notice that technology has change and sound hasn't. Speakers sound the same and I am sticking with my Paradigms. My last receiver was an Onkyo great price for what it offered. I like new technology and I am early adopter. It's an expensive taste and now that i am older i will slow down on the latest and greatest. I have friends that spent over $5000 for their receiver and i cant tell the difference. The internet market has changed the way people buy and now i am here writing my first review. I explain a little bit about myself so you can understand where the review and point of view is coming from. I am also a CFO so i understand value.
There is nothing negative about this receiver, I highly recommend getting it. If you are smart you can get this $1000 receiver for $680 on the internet. I have the iPad and downloaded the iphone app from Pioneer and works great. The reason I picked this unit is that I do own a 3D TV - Samsung PN58C7000 and BDP6900 3D Blueray player. So I wanted to run all my cables through a 1.4A HDMI receiver. This receiver is feature rich. Now there are several units out there by Sony, Yamaha, Denon, Onkyo, and Pioneer. I picked Pioneer unit because they didn't charge another $100 for a docking station for an iPod and you can do so much with this unit.
I live in an apt and therefore the power is adequate at 120Watts per channel. I feel it should be a little heavier but if I wanted that i would have gotten the next model up the SC model with the "D" rated amplifier. But i didn't need that. This unit sounds very clean no hissing noise. Switching between HDMI input is a little slow. I turned off the automated pass through feature that can cause some issues with Samsung Product. I always turn on my Receiver because the sound from the TV is terrible.
My setup is still 5.1 but then again i live in apt in nyc so i don't need 7.1. onkyo offer 9.2 again overkill. The unit has Ethernet connection and i can stream music but the internet radio choices are terrible, i will just use Pandora on my Blueray player instead. Ethernet connection will be good if Pioneer does an software upgrade on the receiver. I haven't tested the DLNA capabilities but i do have DLNA storage unit one by netgear called Stora.
I wish this unit has a PC input like the onkyo but it does not and i do not like the way HDMI from my mac looks on the Samsung Screen either so it doesn't matter. VGA from MAC to TV is just fine with me 720p.
What i like most about this receiver is the surround settings this is a THX receiver and it has many surround sound options more than onkyo or sunfire or any receiver I have played with. Options are great, remote control is easy to use. I have TIVO thru RCN so it can do 1080p. I programmed the Logitech Harmony remote to follow Pioneer VSX-1120 the non-elite version which works great. The VSX-1120 is not much less in price so why pick the VSX-33 Elite version. Build quality is better especially on the front face of the receiver, i believe it is made of aluminum. It's heavier that means the heat sink for the amp is better for cooling and power control, Amber glow, more power, better remote, more inputs, THX, etc. There are a lot of little details i notice that warrant the extra price, but more importantly the ability to expand. You can assign the This receiver is future proof, it has an additional HDMI out in case i want to add a projector. I figure best street price for the VSX-1020 which is below the VSX-1120 is around $449-$499 so the best difference is $180?? to me that is a amazing deal.
The GUI interface on setting up the system is cleaner and better than most receiver. Another big advantage is the Video upconversion which is better than the VSX-32, VSX-31, VSX-1020, VSX-1120, Onkyo SR608 to 808, Denon new models etc. I checked them all out. But i don't care about this feature because everything is passthrough at 1080p for my system.
I hope this info helps, shop around carefully someone is selling this unit for under $700 including tax and shipping. I am highly impressed with this and recommend it for it's features. It can do bi-amping and other things which i was not able to test. I am probably missing alot here on what else the unit can do but to me this is alot of stuff already plus it is 3-zone capable.

I got this product this morning.
I plugged the Blu-Ray 3d player up (with an HDMI 1.4 cable I thankfully ordered separately, see below). When I plugged in the power, my Sony 810 Receiver Sony STR-DH810 7.1-channel A/V Receiver with 7 HD Inputs [3D Compatible] (I'll review that, too) sensed it, switched over, and there I was in the setup menu. A few clicks, everything was done, including the network settings, put in the 3d movie (Shrek), and away it went, and 3d looks great on my UN55C8000 Sammy 3d LCD TV. Samsung UN55C8000 55-Inch 1080p 240 Hz 3D LED HDTV No ghosting that I could see, just as good as the local cinema, maybe even better (except they have great popcorn).
I got the startup kit with 2 pair of 3D glasses on Amazon as well Samsung SSG-P2100S/ZA Shrek 3D Starter Kit, Black
I didn't have to do anything else, the TV auto-sensed the type of 3d signal, and it just went to work. Just like it's supposed to. I am very pleased so far, and if time shows me issues, I'll come back and update this review.
Now, for the negative in all of this:
The "kit" part of this comes with HDMI 1.3 cables. A total waste, you need 1.4 to do 3D. The kit did come with a nice bottle of screen cleaner and a soft cloth, so it wasn't a total waste, but the HDMI cables are the important part, and they're not usable for a 3D install. What were they thinking?
There's also a component cable, but I have no use for that, either.
It's now official. I will now always wait for the Blu-Ray version, no need to pay more for us to see it than it does for us to own it and enjoy it in the comfort of our own home.
So, for the Samsung Blu-Ray 3D, 5 stars, for the kit, 2 stars (generous, since the cleaning stuff is the only thing usable).
